In metal production and processing you can, for example, measure > strip tension by sensing components of forces exerted on a dynamically balanced sensing roll over which the strip is pulled, using purpose designed load cells at or under the ends of the sensing roll.
Furthermore, > strain gages can be incorporated as sensing elements; they are the strongest part of any mill stand and are custom designed to fit each mill precisely. Four different load cell types are available:
- Washer Load Cell - above the nut in electro-mechanical screw-down mills,
- Disc Load Cell - above the top chock,
- Slab Load Cell - below the rocker block,
- T-Block Load Cell - below the rocker bloc.
Moreover, a > laser velocimeter can deliver both, strip speed and length measuring performance also in the most difficult mill applications. The speed measuring accuracy is constant at all speeds, and the velocimeter offers a choice of 6 standoff distances. Since low reflectance targets can be measured, and an integrated water-cooled enclosure protects the device in the worst environments, the laser velocimeter is built for the use in casters, mills, and processing lines, as well as in other industrial applications outside metals rolling.
