Measurement Systems Built for the Mill Floor
Every stopped mill, every scrapped coil, every out-of-tolerance shipment traces back to a reading you couldn’t trust. KELK builds the Roll Force, Tension, and optical dimensional measurement systems that steel and aluminum producers rely on to keep hot and cold mills running inside spec — engineered to survive conditions that retire ordinary sensors in months, not years.
Force Measurement Systems
Strain-gage force sensors engineered to survive hot and cold mill conditions that retire ordinary instrumentation in months, not years.
Roll Force — Load Cells
Precision load cells are rugged electromechanical sensors — available in Washer, Disc, Slab, and T-Block configurations — that reliably measure roll separating force in harsh mill environments.
Learn more →Tension — Tensiometer Transducers & Load Cell
Measure strip and web tension in harsh rolling mill and processing line environments by sensing the force generated as strip is drawn over a sensing roll.
Learn more →Looper — Looper Load Cells
Load cell assemblies that measure force on interstand looper rolls in Hot Strip Mills, supporting accurate strip tension control during rolling.
Learn more →Pressure — Fluid Pressure Transmitters
Rugged pressure transmitters built for hydraulic and process fluid lines in mill environments, holding calibration where standard instrumentation degrades.
Learn more →Optical Measurement Systems
Thirteen non-contact measurement systems covering width, shape, position, and outline — from the hot mill roughing stand to the automotive glass line.
Width
Non-contact strip width measurement holding ±0.4mm accuracy at 2 sigma. Installs in the tight spaces of tension levelers, side trimmers, tandem mill exits, temper mills, and slitter/rewinder lines.
Learn more →ACCUBAND Crop Optimization
Combines crop imaging, laser velocimeters, hot metal detection, and shear control into one system. Installed in nearly 150 steel mills worldwide, cutting scrap from the first cut of every bar.
Learn more →Aluminum Crop Optimization
The ALUMIVIEW Crop Optimization System (ACOS) automates end-crop optimization in aluminum hot strip mills, using real-time image processing to detect “alligator” defects and calculate the optimal crop line while minimizing yield loss.
Learn more →accucamb
Camber Gage
Tracks strip and plate edge curvature in real time, feeding the dimensional loop that keeps aluminum and plate mills inside shape tolerance across long runs.
Learn more →accudrop
Crop Drop Detector
Confirms the lead end has cleared the shear at the moment the cut is triggered, so crop optimization times the first cut against the bar’s actual position — not an assumed one.
Learn more →accuplan
Plate Outline
Full-plate outline and dimensional gaging that gives plate producers the shape and gauge feedback needed to catch outline defects across an entire plate, not just at the ends.
Learn more →Velocity-Length
Laser velocimeters and length measurement feed the speed and position data mill control systems need for crop optimization and process synchronization.
Learn more →Metal Detection
Tracks the transfer bar through the line, giving downstream shear and crop systems a reliable position reference under hot strip mill conditions.
Learn more →alpha. ti 5.0
Thickness Gage
Non-contact thickness measurement across the moving strip, built to hold calibration through continuous production rather than drift like contact-based gauging.
Learn more →alpha. fi compact
Flatness + Contour Gage
A laser-based gauge for precise flatness and contour evaluation of sheets and blanks, with automated inline capability for real-time quality control.
Learn more →alpha. xi compact
Blanking Line Gage
Ensures precise quality control of automotive blanks with laser-based thickness, contour, and flatness measurement, verifying dimensions against DXF drawings to meet stringent industry standards.
Learn more →alpha. hot 3d
Forged Part 3D Gage
Delivers micrometer-accurate predictions of cold dimensions within seconds of forging, enabling instant quality verification and adjustments.
Learn more →alpha. glass
Automotive Glass Gage
Delivers precision area scanning and real-time Radius of Curvature (ROC) assessment for automotive glazing, with high-sensitivity sensors enabling accurate pane-by-pane evaluation in both online and offline operations.
Learn more →Specified Into the Process — Not Bolted On After
From the hot mill roughing stand to the automotive glass line, KELK’s force and optical measurement systems are built into the process itself.
Roll Force, Looper Tension & Crop Optimization
Looper Load Cell Assemblies derive strip tension for mill control systems while Roll Force Load Cells measure force directly at the housing posts — both engineered to withstand the shock and loads of hot strip mill service. Crop optimization systems layer in crop imaging, laser velocimeters, and hot metal detection, installed in nearly 150 steel mills worldwide, cutting scrap from the very first cut of every bar.
Tension, Width, Thickness & Flatness
Tensiometer load cells hold strip tension in spec while ACCUBAND width gages install in the tight spaces of tension levelers, side trimmers, tandem mill exits, temper mills, and slitter/rewinder lines, holding ±0.4mm accuracy with LED illumination built for continuous duty — alongside thickness and flatness/contour gaging on the same lines.
Force & Dimensional Gaging Under Continuous Load
Camber gages, plate outline systems, and flatness/contour gaging give plate and aluminum producers the dimensional feedback loop needed to hold shape and gauge tolerance across long production runs, backed by the same Rollmax force sensors specified into hot strip service.
Glass, 3D Part & Inline Process Gaging
Automotive Glass Gage and Forged Part 3D Gage extend KELK’s non-contact optical architecture beyond the mill floor — the same laser-based thickness, flatness, and contour gaging technology also supports camshaft inspection and other demanding inline process-control applications.
