Optical Measurement Systems
Integrated Sensors + Real-Time Control
= Measurable Production Improvement
KELK Crop Optimization Systems improve yield in hot strip mills by imaging transfer bar head and tail ends, determining the optimum cut line, and controlling the crop shear to execute it — available at the Rougher Exit, Coil Box Entry, or Crop Shear Entry, without requiring removal of existing equipment
Core Product Lines
Non-contact CCD and laser-based gaging — including width, camber, velocity-length, thickness, and crop optimization — engineered to deliver consistent, high-accuracy dimensional data across hot and cold mill operations.
-
Width Gage — ACCUBAND C775FF LED & ACCUBAND C965: Non-contact width gages purpose-built for cold and hot rolling — delivering accurate strip width and centerline measurement in both environments.
-
Camber Gage — ACCUCAMB C885: Non-contact optoelectronic gage that measures camber, strip angle, centerline, and width during rough rolling, and centerline deviation and width during finish rolling. It uses an area-array camera to extract bar edge data, with advanced algorithms ensuring accurate detection despite temperature gradients, scale, and steam.
-
ACCUBAND CROP OPTIMIZATION SYSTEM — ACCUBAND C965-C: Improves yield by optimizing the trimming of transfer bar head and tail ends in a Hot Strip Mill, providing up to four key functions depending on configuration.
-
Crop Drop Detector — ACCUDROP: Provides positive confirmation that a scrap or crop cut has entered the chute, using a sensor that reliably detects hot steel movement through heavy steam and fog in Hot Strip Mill environments, with support for up to three sensors for scalable, redundant coverage.
Hot Strip Mills: Roll Force and Tension
Looper Load Cell Assemblies derive strip tension for mill control systems while Load Cells measure roll force directly at the housing posts. Both are engineered to withstand the high loads, shock, and harsh conditions found throughout hot strip mill.
Cold Rolling & Processing Lines: Dimensional Measurement for Tight-Tolerance Strip
ACCUBAND width gages install in the tight spaces of tension levelers, side trimmers, tandem mill exits, temper mills, and slitter/rewinder lines, holding ±0.4 mm accuracy with LED illumination built for continuous duty.
Aluminum & Plate Mills: Force and Dimensional Gaging Under Continuous Load
Camber gages, plate outline systems, and flatness/contour gaging give plate and aluminum producers the dimensional feedback loop needed to hold shape and gauge tolerance across long production runs.
Sensors & Process Control
Rugged Sensors for Mission-Critical Applications
Laser-based thickness, flatness, and contour gaging extend KELK's precision measurement capabilities to camshaft inspection, automotive glass, and other demanding inline process control applications.
