LOOPER LOAD CELL ASSEMBLY
Electromechanical Sensors for Measuring Force on Interstand Looper Rolls in Hot Strip Mills
In Hot Strip Mills KELK offers
Looper Load Cell Assemblies dimensioned to integrate into existing looper arms.
These Assemblies contain special Load Cells as well as additional sensors to measure looper angle and looper acceleration in applications which require the derivation of strip tension for the mill control system.
The looper load cell assembly features a stainless steel flexure block designed to integrate into an existing looper arm, housing a stainless steel load cell with an internal overload stop. It accurately measures the force applied to the looper roll during normal operation while withstanding the high impact and inertial forces generated by looper action. For applications requiring strip tension derivation, additional sensors for looper angle and acceleration are needed, along with strip weight input.
Using strain gage technology with DC excitation, the load cell delivers fast response to changing forces. It interfaces with KELK's Rollmax Digital Signal Processor (Model DSP2) for advanced force measurement, and can optionally be supplied with an integral accelerometer.
FEATURES
- Rugged stainless steel construction, with the flexure block and load cell each machined from single high-strength steel forgings
- Hermetically sealed load cell
- Excellent linearity and low hysteresis
- Durable and reliable across a wide temperature range
Each assembly is custom-sized for its specific installation, with KELK engineers preparing detailed drawings of the assembly and adjacent looper arm components to support successful integration. Load cells come standard with a 15-meter (50-foot) Teflon cable featuring four shielded conductors, protected by a steel-reinforced Teflon hydraulic hose assembly.
