CROP DROP DETECTOR

ACCUDROP :  Positive Cut Release Indicator for Crop Shear Chute Detection

test

  • Provides positive confirmation that a scrap or crop cut has entered the chute
  • Functions as an add-on to the KELK ACCUCROP Control system or as a stand-alone solution
  • Core sensor reliably detects hot steel movement, even through heavy steam and fog typical of Hot Strip Mill (HSM) environments
  • Supports up to three sensors simultaneously for scalable, redundant coverage in areas with blind spots or harsh conditions

The ACCUDROP (ACD) system reliably confirms that head and tail crop pieces have been completely detached from the transfer bar and have entered the crop chute after shearing. Using PIR (Passive Infra-Red) technology, the ACD sensors detect the movement and temperature change of hot steel, even under the steam, fog, and harsh conditions typical of a Hot Strip Mill (HSM). After the Crop Shear “Cut Complete” signal, the ACD Controller processes signals from one to three sensors positioned along the chute for reliable detection and redundancy. A “Crop Drop Confirmed” signal is sent to the mill control system when the crop is detected, while a “Crop Drop Missed Alarm” is generated if it is not, helping prevent potential damage to the finishing mill stands. The system can operate as a stand-alone solution and features robust sensors capable of detecting moving material from 300 °C to 1200 °C.

STANDARD FEATURES AND BENEFITS

  • Reliable crop-drop confirmation: Confirms that the head and tail crop pieces have detached from the transfer bar and entered the crop chute.

  • PIR detection technology: Detects the movement and temperature change of hot steel, allowing operation in steam, fog, and other challenging HSM conditions.

  • Protection of the finishing mill: Provides a Crop Drop Missed Alarm when the crop is not detected, allowing the mill process to be stopped and preventing potential equipment damage.

  • Scalable and redundant detection: Supports 1 to 3 sensors strategically positioned along the chute to improve reliability and minimize blind spots.

  • Robust mill environment capability: Detects moving material from 300 °C to 1200 °C, includes internal temperature monitoring via two independent 4–20 mA circuits, and offers optional protected cabling for harsh environments.
